India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel said MS Dhoni is always clear about his team combinations and that the team meetings at Chennai Super Kings don’t last more than 2 minutes.

Recalling the 2008 Indian Premier League campaign in which Parthiv Patel played a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ run to the final, Parthiv Patel said the team meeting in the lead up to the final against Rajasthan Royals lasted just 2 minutes.

“Team meetings used to last for 2 minutes. In the 2008 final, the CSK team meeting led by Dhoni lasted for 2 minutes and I am sure it lasted for 2 minutes in 2019 also.

“Dhoni was always clear in what he wanted from his players. Dhoni was always clear about his team combinations and the role each player had to play in the squad,” Parthiv Patel told Star Sports.

Parthiv, who scored 302 runs including 2 fifties for CSK in IPL 2008, said CSK never treated Rajasthan Royals as underdogs.

Notably, CSK lost the inaugural IPL final to Shane Warne-led RR. Parthiv hit 38 off 33 balls as CSK went on to post 160. However, it was not enough as a Yusuf Pathan fifty helped the Royals clinch glory in the big final.

“The RR team in the 2008 season played like a group of 11 players. It was never a team of individuals and that is why we took them seriously. They were never the underdogs,” Parthiv said.

Parthiv, who now plays for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore, spent three years at CSK. The wicketkeeper-batsman said he learnt a lot from the senior players at CSK during his time with the 3-time champions.

“I learned a lot in 2008 from watching players like Michael Hussey, Stephen Fleming and Mathew Hayden, how they get ready for big matches and how they prepare.”
