After 15-year-old Jyoti Kumari caught US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump’s attention for cycling down 1200km carrying her ailing father during the nationwide lockdown in India, sports minister Kiren Rijiju assured that the Darbhanga girl will be selected in the National Cycling Academy if the federation finds potential in her.
After being stuck in Gurugram, Haryana, due to the travel restriction in the time of Covid-19 lockdown, Jyoti Kumari covered a distance of 1200km in seven days with his father on the rear side carrier of her cycle.
Jyoti’s courageous journey moved many and she was also offered trials by the Cycling Federation of India.
On Sunday, Kiren Rijiju said that he will ask the Sports Authority of India and the Cycling Federation to report to him after conducting the trials of Jyoti, who is a class 8 student.
“I assured @rsprasad ji. Will ask the SAI officials and Cycling Federations of India to report to me after conducting the trials of Jyoti Kumari. If found potential, she will be selected as trainee at the National Cycling Academy in the IGI Stadium complex in New Delhi,” Rijiju tweeted while responding to a tweet from law minister of India Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Speaking to India Today earlier, Jyoti Kumari said that she would be interested in appearing for the trials.
“Yes I will go for the cycling race,” Jyoti said.
US President Donald Trump’s daughter and senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump also lauded the spirit of the 15-year-old migrant, terming her act as a “beautiful feat of endurance and love”.
Ivanka took to Twitter to highlight the story of the Indian girl whose journey has become an extensive talking point even on social media where there has been talk about whether she has it in her to pursue cycling as a career.
“15 yr old Jyoti Kumari, carried her wounded father to their home village on the back of her bicycle covering +1,200 km over 7 days. “This beautiful feat of endurance & love has captured the imagination of the Indian people and the cycling federation!” Ivanka said in a tweet.
